Bad Romeo Film Shenanigans

If you’ve been following me on social media, then you know that I’ve been having the time of my life working on a short film version of Bad Romeo. (For those who aren’t up to date with all the details, there’s a FAQ at the end of this post.)

The entire process of this film has been magical, and after a whirlwind production schedule in which we crammed seven days’-worth of shooting into five, I’m vibrating with exhilaration from seeing my words, scenes, and characters brought to life by an incredibly talented group of artists, headed by One Serve Productions. (To our remarkable crew – James, Callum, Cain, Josh, Laura, and Hayden – thank you. From the bottom of my heart.)

I can’t even describe how emotional I got watching our amazing team transform my imaginary world into reality. At the first table read I almost burst into tears, because crazy-talented actors were saying my words, and they sounded so much better than I could have possibly imagined.

Up until now, I’ve kept the identity of the actors playing Cassie and Ethan a secret, and I know a lot of you have been cursing my name for being a filthy tease. As much as some folks believe I kept them hidden purely to torture readers, (and let’s face it, I did get a huge kick out of that,) the main reason I protected their identities for so long was to shield them from the maelstrom of attention that’s about to hit them in the face – both good and bad.

We all know that if five different people read the same book, they’d likely each have a different idea of how their favorite characters should look. So right off the bat, we had zero chance of casting people who will please everyone’s expectations. And let’s face it, readers can be incredibly vocal when they don’t approve of certain casting choices. (Just ask Jamie Dornan.)

So for me, I had to put all pre-conceived notions out of my mind and go with actors who flat-out nailed the characters; who understood them and brought complexity and depth to them. I’m the luckiest author in the world to not only have found that in my Cassie and Ethan, but also to have discovered two cool-as-hell people who adored my characters just as much as I did. What more could I ask for?

I can’t tell you how much I love these actors. They’re passionate, talented, and remarkably dedicated, and they put up with me ordering them to simulate sex in a roomful of people even though they barely knew each other. I truly believe these two have massive futures ahead of them, and if I didn’t have a library full of books in my head that need to be written, I’d sign on as their manager tomorrow and make a squillion dollars.

BAD ROMEO FILM – FAQ

For those with questions, hopefully I have answers for you below:

IS IT A FULL LENGTH MOVIE?

No. It’s a short film. It will run around 20 minutes. But you’ll be surprised at how much we can fit into that amount of time.

IS IT BEING PRODUCED BY A MOVIE STUDIO?

No. It’s being produced by a small, independent production house, mainly because someone there fell in love the the books. Our crew is extremely talented, but they’re all working for free. So it’s a love project. By fans, for fans.

WHEN WILL WE GET TO SEE IT?

I don’t know. A couple of months? It depends how long it takes to edit, and if we need to come back in March for reshoots. I’ll keep you posted.

WHICH PARTS OF THE BOOK WILL BE IN THE MOVIE?

Your fave parts! (Well, most them, anyway.)

WILL WE SEE ETHAN’S PENIS?

No. Well, maybe. If I can sneak a pic of him in the shower. We’ll see. (Ethan, if you’re reading this, I’M JOKING! Don’t bother locking the bathroom door.)
